Douglas L. Henzlik



Doug Henzlik has spent over 24 years in commercial real estate focusing on retail, developing and leasing shopping centers, and tenant representation.

After completing his degree from the University of Kansas, Doug began his career with Leo Eisenberg in the Charleston, SC branch specializing in development and leasing of Wal-Mart anchored shopping centers. In 1993, he started a branch office in Charleston, SC for JDN Realty Corporation, the largest developer of Wal-Mart locations in the mid 1990’s and one of the largest strip center REIT’s in the country, with an average of 115 properties in its portfolio.

In 1997, Doug joined Tyler Oliver and formed Henzlik-Oliver Real Estate. The group initially focused on tenant representation, small development deals and in recent years, Walgreens development projects. The joint venture is still a preferred developer for Walgreens and has completed 17 developments.

With a focus on shopping centers across the United States, Doug has acquired, developed or redeveloped over three-million square feet of retail. He has worked with well-known national brands such as: The Home Depot, Wal-Mart, Tractor Supply Company, Buffalo Wild Wings, Walgreens, CVS Pharmacy, Mattress Firm, Staples, AT&T, Food Lion, AWG Grocery Stores, O’Reilly Automotive, and AutoZone.

Doug grew up in Leawood, KS where he attended Shawnee Mission South High School and played on the basketball team.  After high school, he attended the University of Kansas where he was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity, and also a member of the KU basketball team, playing in the 1986 Final Four Tournament.

Doug and his wife, Leslie, have been married for 20 years, have one son and two daughters, and live in Stilwell, KS.  Doug also has two brothers; an older brother who has been in the real estate business his entire career, with more than 27+ years in retail development, leasing and tenant representation, and a younger brother with Down’s Syndrome who works at Dillons Grocery Stores.


With over 25 years in real estate as a banker, commercial lender, and banking manager – with a niche in commercial real estate, development, and construction – Cheryl Mitchell brings a wealth of experience to her role as Henzlik Real Estate Companies Controller. Since 2014, she has been responsible for the analytical and quantitative underwriting for ownership and financial institutions, property and cash flow analysis, proforma and cash flow review, documentation, lease management and administration, and all financial accounting.
Working with Doug Henzlik, Cheryl has been able to pursue diverse roles, having positions on both sides of the table, giving her the best perspective to understand both sides and achieve a win-win outcome for everyone.  Working on Henzlik Real Estate projects, she is building relationships, her forte, and thankful for the great happiness and success of the team, and life balance.
Cheryl grew up in Jefferson City, MO and North Carolina, beginning her banking experience early during high school and college. She attended William Wood College where she was a member of Alpha Chi Omega Sorority, graduating with degrees in Economics and Finance.
After graduating college, Cheryl moved to Kansas City, joining a commercial banking institution as a Credit Analyst. With her love of real estate and focus on development and construction, she moved on to manage bank wide financial analysis and review, commercial loan operations, commercial lending and real estate lending, serving on management teams, senior committees and board of directors. Cheryl’s career experience has included SVP, EVP and CFO roles.
Cheryl has lived in southern Overland Park, KS for over 20 years. She has three children that she adores:  her eldest son, Jacob, attending graduate school and living with his wife, Lauren, in Kansas City, MO; her daughter, Jessica, attending graduate school at KU and living in Lawrence, KS; her youngest son, Jamie, attending high school as a junior.
